Can we expect to see "Send Pokemon" other places online?

Won't Nintendo try to shut this application down? What about their intellectual property?

While the threat indeed exists, other MMORPG-like communities making liberal use of the pokémon franchise have been allowed to exist over the years. This is far removed from being a guarantee that this application will be allowed to persist, but it does soothe somewhat to know that others have 'gotten away with' this before.

See also: Another topic on the subject, Thread: I love this app, but what if Pokemon(R) forces it to be shut down? and Thread: Legal stuff

Will there be shiny pokémon?

There are no plans to add shiny pokémon to the application at this time.

Why does my profile show no pokémon if I change my settings to show all?

Neike says: "I'm not sure, though it may be because facebook limits the amount of data applications can display on a user profile. If you have a lot of pokémon, you may simply not be able to display all, due to the sheer amount."

Who develops this application?

Charles Yong's the chap you're looking for.

If you can avoid it at all, though, please don't bother him directly - if you've got questions or concerns, try staff first.

What is the setting "Number Displayed on Profile:" for?

This determines how many pokémon of those you have received will show up on your profile.

Why is this FAQ on a separate page?

facebook's discussion board software does not allow moderators to instate 'stickies' (threads that are always on top regardless of when they were last replied to), so options for this FAQ or other important threads are currently rather limited.

There are plans for in-application discussion boards eventually, though, so keep your eyes peeled for that - they will come with a sticky capability, and will, in general, offer Charles and his helpers considerably more control.

WHY ARE PEOPLE ANGRY AT ME IF I TYPE IN ALL-CAPS?

On the internet, all-caps is considered shouting. Just like you'd not appreciate being shouted at in real life, all-caps is generally not appreciate on the internet, either, except when used for humour or otherwise in moderation.

Why am I getting the "Warning! Your account could be disabled." message?

This is nothing Charles or the co-moderators have done. Depending on the frequency of your posts on the discussion board, facebook might deem your account a potential spammer. If you get this message, try to keep your posting to a bare minimum until the message goes away. Unfortunately, there's nothing Charles or any of the co-moderators can do to help you in the matter, as it really is nothing they decide.

Is there a reason why my application review of Send Pokemon has never moved down the wall on the main page?

Brent C wrote: "Yes, because when you review an app your review always appears on top for you. It doesn't appear on top to anyone else."

How do I get Poke-bucks?

To get Poke-bucks, you can either pet a lot of pokémon or battle wild pokémon in the 'adventure' section of the game. Now that PVP and Trading are available those are also means to get pokebucks.

Another means of getting Poke-bucks is by taking a look at the offers in the carnival - however, be aware that the carnival is primarily intended as means to help with server costs, and only churns out Poke-bucks as minor courtesy to you, so you should in no way consider it as a primary source of in-application money.

Additionally, donating directly comes with Poke-bucks benefits.

See also: How do I help with server costs?

How do I help with server costs?

You can help with server costs by partaking in the offers in the carnival - but that's a fairly indirect way of going about it. If you want a no-strings-attached, direct way of donating, check out the donation link below.

Why do some people in the meebo chat have more warnings than others that are already muted?

Being muted in the chat does not depend solely on the amount of warnings you've received, but also in the timespan these were given to you. Additionally, warns do not expire per chat session, but muting eventually wears off. The combination of those factors makes it rather frequent that you will find someone with many warns talking while someone with only a few is currently muted.

Where do I report issues?

A good first stop is the discussion board. Charles reads the threads posted there - even if he doesn't always respond. Basically, if you mention it there, you can be fairly sure that it's being considered.

Beyond that, you can write to sendpokemon@gmail.com - that's read more frequently, though there you likely won't get a response.

See also: Discussion board

My question isn't here. Where can I get it answered?

The discussion board or the IRC channel are good bets for places where you will get swift answers from the veterans. Some people talk to Charles frequently - you can help Charles focus on designing and programming for the application by going to these places first.

Is there an IRC channel for the fans of this application?

If you want a better-moderated environment than meebo is, you're welcome to try your luck with the IRC chat. It is very plain, but there are far more options as to keeping it clean from spam or simple idiocy.

See also: Semi-official IRC chat

Why have the chat clients been switching back and forth?

The chat was switched to Mibbit, a client of IRC, to ensure everyone could chat with whomever they wanted, but Mibbit crashed for an extended period of time, so the client was switched back to Meebo.

Also, the chat will potentially be switched back to IRC in the future, but only after Charles can code it into his own server or find a more reliable client with which to connect.

To quell worries about a future "super fast" chat, like the Mibbit experiment, do not worry, as the chat may be split up according to location, i.e.: people in Pallet Town will be in the Pallet Chat, people on Route 1 in the Route 1 chat, etc.

What is the best way to contact a moderator?

Moderators are almost always available to help. The best place to find one is in the IRC chatroom #pokemon. also a link to get there is http://pokemon.pinkgothic.com/

I want to be a quest master! When will you guys get back to me?

There is some dispute about the exact way of picking Quest Masters behind the scenes which is stalling the process a slight bit. A decision should be felled soon (within a week from this posting), though, and things will roll from there.

How do I apply for a staff position?

Send an application to sendpokemon@gmail.com, stating what positions you would like to fill. This is a prerequisite for any staff position.

I sent an eMail to sendpokemon@gmail.com ages ago and got no response - does that mean I'm not being considered?

Not necessary.

Quest masters and game masters have yet to be responded to, in their entirety. No one has been picked yet, so everyone is still eligible.

Artists, on the other hand, should resend their applications if they have not gotten a response within two weeks - the links to the artist groups are sent out almost immediately on reading the eMails, which happens in bouts.

Moderators are currently being responded to, but this is erratic. An announcement will be made once all moderator spots are filled - both via this FAQ, the discussion board, and possibly via the application itself. If they have not been contacted by then, they are not being considered.

I want to be a game master! When will you guys get back to me?

Game Masters are going to be invited to a group very soon now. As in, within a week from this posting.

Where can I find rules for meebo (the in-application chat rooms)?

Who decides on who gets to be staff?

Overall, Charles Yong and TK Campo decide who gets staff positions, with various degrees of emphasis in different groups.

Moderators: Ian Marty, with help of Kit Henson and TK Campo, are able to select moderators.

Artists: currently, the artist groups are free for all, but the ultimate decision of who is kept in the team in the long run lies almost exclusively with Charles Yong.

Quest Masters: TK Campo is heavily in charge of this. More information will be revealed once it is made available.

Game Masters: Decisions here are spread out evenly so far. Additionally, Someguy also has staff appointing authority in this category. Again, more information will be revealed once it is made available.

Be aware - harrassing the decision makers lowers your chances to a position. Do not ask your friends to promote you to them. If you are a friend of someone who applied and are thinking of recommending said person, don't do it, it is detrimental.

I've got a complaint about how something was handled, or about a staff member, in general. Who do I go to?

(1) eMail sendpokemon@gmail.com. Even if there is no response, it will be read and dealt with. (If you desperately want feedback, state as much in your eMail, and feedback will be given - give it a week, max, for a response.)

(2) Talk to TK Campo directly about it.

(3) As a last resort, contact Charles Yong. Please don't skip ahead to this unless you mistrust TK, because Charles has enough on his plate already.

All complaints are heard, though you may not see the consequences in public.

In general, staff issues are attempted to be resolved internally. Public smear campaigns of any sort are discouraged, and we wouldn't really lead by example if we did that.

This also means that if someone tries to raise a fuss in public without trying any of the above first, they can expect to be ignored, even if they later take the route described above.

Where can I find rules for IRC (the chat room linked to from the about page)?

Who are the current moderators?

The current moderators are:
- ajnrules
- Backstage
- coldsteelelec
- dogdude84
- Finbar
- Gliynn
- PringlesTheAlmadirro
- Kairi
- littlemikey
- Lizatron
- LOKI
- Okami
- Scarthem
- Tarwedge
- TheBlueLady
- TK
- zuko

This is an exhaustive list. Some of them are currently not available, of others, timezones are few and far between, so you may only know a fraction of them right now. Chances are things will shuffle around eventually.

Be aware that in meebo, you should never rely on names alone to identify a moderator.

Does Charles read all of the applications himself?

No. Some of the moderators are eligible to dealing with sendpokemon@gmail.com eMails - Charles rarely reads, much less responds to any of the applications himself. If you consider the sheer bulk of eMails, this is quite understandable. :)

How can I identify moderators?

In meebo, you can recognise moderators by the stars beside their names. In IRC, people with an @ are always moderators, though moderators can choose not to wear this 'badge', which they usually do if they are not paying much attention. On the discussion board, there is no way to tell who is a moderator and who is not - when in doubt, ask TK Campo; or one of the moderators in meebo or IRC.

Where are the artist and cartographer groups? I want to join!

Just send an eMail to sendpokemon@gmail.com stating you'd like to help - that's all there is to it. Additionally, if you've got a friend in either group, they're entitled to inviting you in, too, since the groups are mostly free for all right now.

I think I screwed up - did that ruin my chances at a position?

The first thing you have to know is that the people who pick staff are very much aware that everyone applying for a position is human. Errors are made.

That being said, there are some things that lower your chances:

- for moderators, if you approach the staff responsible to pick moderators, and ask for an interview, you should know that if you've not been contacted, you didn't make it past the filters, and your chances are naturally low.
- for moderators, if any of your friends harrass the moderator picking team about picking you. This raises the noise-to-signal ratio and, in struggle to compensate for the punctual praise in attempt to be unbiased, chances are perception of the applicant will be overcorrected toward the negative. In normal English: it's annoying, okay?

...and some that are rarely, if ever, forgiven:

- any behaviour pertaining to the deliberate discrediting the picking process (of any position) is an instant K.O. - don't tell the people who pick staff what to do (see the noise-to-signal point further up)
- deliberate misinformation
- double applications in attempt to heighten your chances (rather than just append or correct something)

In general, if picking staff get the impression that you are after the position more than after what it entails (helping people), you're not being accepted anywhere in a hurry.

How many applications are there?

Over one thousand moderator applications (~1100), over one thousand quest master applications (~1200), over two thousand game master applications (~2400) and about 750 artist applications.

I hear moderators are being accepted at the moment. How does the process work?

There are, all in all, over one thousand applications for the moderator position in sendpokemon@gmail.com. Due to their sheer mass, they are pre-filtered by two separate criteria, of which they have to pass only one.

Following this, an interview is organised with the applicant, which decides whether or not they are admitted to the staff team.

Note that only 25 positions overall are being considered.

Some people in the chats are really super helpful! Why aren't they moderators?

First things first: the moderators appreciate anyone helping with questions, and don't let anyone make you think otherwise.

However, being a moderator is a huge responsibility. It requires a certain amount of masochism (if you've ever seen the moderators in the chat rooms, you may likely understand why), a distinct amount of empathy, and various other traits that are uncovered during the interview process.

The bar is a high one. Activity, while admirable, is not one of the criteria when deciding for a moderator position (though it is most certainly viewed positively) - it's not foremost about how much you do, but how you do it.

It's pivotal to understand that a lack of moderator position is in no way a statement of a bad personality. You can be a great person and still a bad moderator.

(The analogy I like to draw here is to make a reference to my girlfriend: she's a sweetheart, but she would be an atrocious moderator. It doesn't change the fact that I love her to bits.)

Sending
What's the unlock level about?

The unlock level is determined by how many pokémon you have been sending. There are 39 unlock levels. Beyond telling you roughly how many pokémon someone has unlocked, they will be playing a role in what pokémon can be found in the wild once the battling system is implemented.

See also: ajnrules' unlock spreadsheet, If you haven't unlocked a pokemon further along in the pokedex through sending pokemon, but someone sends you that pokemon, can you train it? and General unlock level inquiry thread

How do I pick which received pokémon show up on my profile?

In the 'Send Pokemon' part of the application, you can tab over to the 'Received' sub-section, which will give you the option of deleting pokémon. Note that the pokémon you delete will still count toward your received-count and your received-dex, they're just hidden from your 'received' tab and your profile.

Why can I send only X amount of pokémon per day?

Facebook limits the amount of notifications any one application can send out to facebook users to curb spam. You can increase this by treating the application with respect: become a fan, rate it well, and always accept pokémon sent to you. Essentially, the more your behaviour (and the collective behaviour of everyone else using this application) convinces facebook that this application is benevolent, the more pokémon you will eventually be able to send, if more people follow your example.

Additionally, you can send more, by using in-application trainer profiles - clicking on a facebook username within the application (in the 'Send pokémon' > 'Received' or 'Send pokémon' > 'Sent' section) will take you to their profile, which include the option of "Send pokémon to ______". This option bypasses the send limit.

How do I send myself pokémon?

In the 'Send Pokemon' part of the application, the page 'Send/Unlock' subsection defaults to your sending pokémon to 'Friends without pokemon'. You can also pick 'All Friends' or 'Yourself' just above the friend selector, though - latter is what you're looking for.

What time does the timer for pokémon sending reset?

Ian Marty: "I'm pretty sure it resets at midnight Pacific time."

TK Campo: "My experience with other applications is that it's a set interval of 12:00am and 12:00pm... and I'd base this application off of pacific central time."

How can the top sender have such a high tally?

Check out "Why can I send only X amount of pokémon per day?" for how to 'bypass' the daily limit - so, instead of sending a X amount of pokémon every day for the past twenty odd years, the top sender simply made use of the lack of a cap.

In other words - no cheating, boring an answer as that may be!

See also: Why can I send only X amount of pokémon per day?

Is there any other way of unlocking more pokémon for sending besides sending those you have?

No, not currently - and none are planned, yet, either.

See also: ajnrules' unlock spreadsheet

Why can I not send pokémon to my friends at all (blank friend list)?

Unfortunately, this seems to be a facebook issue, not an issue the developer of this application has any control over. Try accessing the application in a different browser (FireFox, Opera, Internet Explorer, Safari, ...) - some have reported that this fixes things for them.

The friend selector is provided by facebook. Interestingly enough, even if it is broken on "Send Pokemon", this doesn't necessarily mean it will be broken in any other application - and vice versa. However, Charles (the application developer) really can't do anything about it.

Training
Does a pokémon's hunger/happiness stat decrease if it is not tended to?

Not currently, but this is a planned feature.

Can I change the name I've given to my pokémon?

Not currently.

Why are some of my unlocked pokémon not available for training?

You can only choose to train the first evolutionary step of a pokémon, e.g. while you can choose to train Bulbasaur, you can't train Ivysaur or Venusaur. See also "Will pokémon evolve?" as to why this is the case.

Additionally, some pokémon are considered 'rare' and will only be encounterable by capturing them on the map once it is released.

Why does it tell me that my pokémon is too young? What's the purpose of this feature?

Posting your petting link on the board can quickly push your pokémon up to 100 happiness with minimal effort, especially if you stick to one of the main petting threads (the most popular one is the original INSTANT PETTING thread). To avoid having people who just installed the application set up a full team in a very short time - and give those who are less frequently on the internet a chance - you can only train one pokémon every twelve hours.

See also: The INSTANT PETTING thread and How do I best link people to my pokémon for petting?

How come some people are training legendaries?

This is a glitch exploitation. Don't worry, they won't be allowed to keep their pokémon - once the battle system is complete, cheats like this will simply be erased.

Is there a way to know the petting URL of a previously trained pokémon?

Yes, though it really only works for petting and will not show another person the pokémon they petted. Additionally, it will be patched up soon, as petting a pokémon not in-training is a glitch, not a feature.

See the link below for a step-by-step instruction as to how to reconstruct your pokémon petting link.

See also: Thread: Is there a way to know the URL of previously trained pokémon?

What's the deal with Hitmonchan? Why I can I train Hitmonlee, but not it?

No particular reason - but it is intentional.

Can I release pokémon already on my belt?

Not currently.

Will legendaries only be available for people with the 'legendary' status?

No, everyone will have the chance at getting legendaries in the game.

Can I train more than one pokémon at a time?

You can't train more than one pokémon - simultaneously! However, after you've finished with its training and moved it to storage or the belt, you can train another, and so forth - so it's just a question of a bit of patience, really. :)

How do I best link people to my pokémon for petting?

(Thanks to Zack Reph for pointing out this would be a good addition to the FAQ!)

Standard link

The standard way to link to your pokemon is to look at your pokémon's in training information page and copy the link proffered in the middle of the right column, in the format: http://apps.facebook.com/pokemontrainer/train.php?uid=xxxxxxxxxx

Instant petting link

However, there's a quicker way to get people to pet your pokémon. If you click on the [Pet (Earns 10 Poke-bucks)] button, then on the resulting page copy the address from the address bar of your browser, you will get something in the form of: http://apps.facebook.com/pokemontrainer/train.php?uid=xxxxxxxxxx&pet=xxxxxx

People clicking on that link will immediate pet your pokémon and immediately be given 10 pokébucks, without having to click the button themselves.

Ultra-short instant petting link

You can also change the link by omitting the "uid=xxxxxxxxxx&" part, coming up with something in the form of: http://apps.facebook.com/pokemontrainer/train.php?pet=xxxxxx

This will have people pet your pokémon, but view their own pokémon's profile, including the minifeed telling them who has recently pet it. Some people like this, but others prefer seeing the pokémon they pet, so keep that in mind when making your choice as to whether to take the ultra-short version with just the "pet" parameter or the 'verbose' direct pet link.

See also: The INSTANT PETTING thread and Instant Petting etiquette

People are trying to make others feed their pokémon in instant petting threads! Stop them!

Don't worry - you can't feed another person's pokémon. The error message is a bit cryptic, in that it tells you that you don't have sufficient funds to feed the pokémon, but neither your funds nor the funds of the actual owner are relevant - it's simply not possible to feed another person's pokémon.

What happens when my pokémon reaches 90 loyalty?

Currently, you're simply given the option to move the pokémon to your belt (or storage). The migration from 'in training' to the belt will cost you 100 Poke-bucks - for the pokéball that will contain the pokémon.

The migration is done by hand - in other words, no worries, your pokémon doesn't automatically migrate from one area to the next. You have complete control over what happens.

I have exactly 50 Poke-bucks, but it is not letting me feed my pokémon?

The script currently checks if you have more than 50 Poke-bucks, not more-than-or-exactly 50 Poke-bucks. It's a minor oversight in the programming that will hopefully soon be fixed.

If you haven't unlocked a pokemon further along in the pokedex through sending pokemon, but someone sends you that pokemon, can you train it?

No. You have to unlock pokémon for training on your own, by sending them and improving your unlock level.

See also: Why are some of my unlocked pokémon not available for training? and ajnrules' unlock spreadsheet

I hear people are using a script to automatically pet a lot of pokémon for Poke-bucks - isn't that cheating?

Yes, it is cheating, but for now it remains without consequence. Eventually, Charles will put a cap on how many pokémon you can pet a day, to curb this kind of behaviour.

Adventure: Map
Which towns are open?

Pallet, Viridian, Pewter and Cerulean. The rest will be added soon.

Will we need HMs?

Eventually, yes. It's hard to conceive in Send Pokemon right now, but if you've looked at the beta, you'll understand why. :)

Why am I not encountering any pokémon on the map?

Pokémon encounters have only been enabled for select areas for now. If you're in those areas and still can't find pokémon, keep trying - you're probably just be having a bad luck streak.

These are the places:

  • Mt. Moon
  • Route 1
  • Route 2
  • Route 3
  • Route 22
  • Victory Road
  • Viridian Forest

I can't enter some towns! Why?

Not all location data has been entered into the database yet. For now, head back to the open towns if you want your pokémon healed / use the time machine / visit a Mart.

See also: Which towns are open?

Why can we walk on water on the map?

Because it would be tedious to code in restrictions in the Send Pokemon application, mainly.

Collision detection and so forth (which is what this boils down to) is being done far more thoroughly in the Send Pokemon adventure beta, which ditches the current map concept completely in favour of a more classic navigational style.

How do I move about on the map?

You can move around on the map by using the east/south/west/north buttons once you've exited a town.

Yes, it's a slow movement system - especially if you've not upgraded your means of transportation.

See also: Is there a way to move faster?

Will there be player-run gyms?

Yes, there will be.

See also: Thread: gym leaders

Where do I heal my pokémon?

You can heal your pokémon in any city by entering the city - you'll have the option to heal them right beside the buttons that let you exit the city again.

What's the deal with hang gliders? They seem like a waste of money?

Eventually, the terrain depicted on the map will matter in regards to where you can move - the hang glider will have significant advantage over the car then, despite less maximum occupancy and identical movement speed.

See also: Mitchell's FAQ (hang gliders @ #15)

Is there a way to move faster?

In the PokéMarts of the towns, you will be able to upgrade your means of transportation from the default sneakers all the way up to the Hot Air Balloon - providing you have the Poke-Bucks to buy these upgrades.

Help! How can I move? The directional buttons aren't showing up!

This seems to happen occasionally when people enter an area that Charles was busy coding in. What happens is that your location ID is no longer in line with the coordinates on the map that you're on. There is an easy way to fix this - just ask one of staff, they'll see you through it. :)

Does occupancy in transport mean I will be able to take others along with me?

Yes, for occupancy>1, it does.

Adventure: Battling
Once legendaries are added into the game, won't every one up with one? Won't that be pretty boring for PvP, if everyone has an uber-tier team?

No. Legendaries will be available only to a small subset of people: approximately 1% of all active players will be able to have legendary pokémon in their team at any given time, more will not be released via quests.

Are elemental strengths and weaknesses factored into battle yet?

Yes.

Is STAB (same-type attack bonus) being applied to moves?

Yes.

When moving around with low-level pokémon, I encounter level 1 pokémon that then warp/change into level 2/3/4/5 pokémon. Is someone stealing my kills?

No - all pokémon battles on the map are completely tied to your person, there's no multiplayer aspect to the game yet.

It's simply a bug, remnant of a no longer used algorithm that determined the level of the pokémon you encountered by your own pokémon's level - it'll go away when you level past the encountered pokémon's ACTUAL level(s). (I'm aware that does not explain the occasional change in species that occurs.)

It helps to keep in mind: the lowest level encounterable in the game is level 2, on Route 1.

Note that this is, indeed, a different bug than the species/level-switch one, referenced below.

What's going on? I was battling a ______ just now, then it suddenly became a _______!

Ian Marty wrote: "There is one glitch I notice...the next opponent you seem to fight has the same name and species as your previous battle, but switches to the actual enemy after the first attack. I.E. I just fought a zubat, beat it, and the next thing was a level 42 Zubat, but turned into Marowak after the first shot.

For now, look at the name of the pokémon you encounter [as displayed between your pokémon and the enemy pokémon], not the picture."

What's the deal with Leech Seed? It's making my pokémon invincible.

A KO is currently determined after statuses are calculated for a hit. (Leech Seed counts as a status.) As such, if your pokémon is brought down to 0HP by the enemy, but the enemy is inflicted with Leech Seed, you will gain a small amount of HP before the KO check is done.

This is, obviously, a bug, not intended behaviour, but it might still be a while before it is fixed; until then, enjoy the free meal.

Can my pokémon have several (non-volatile) statuses? (I.e. paralysed, sleeping, burned, frozen, poisoned.)

Currently, yes.

As the battle system gradually reaches its completion, coding-wise, though, this will be fixed.

See also: Original thread reporting the issue

Does the loyalty level matter for battling? Does it make a difference whether it is at 90% or 100%, or anywhere in between?

It does not currently matter, but check out the question 'Does a pokémon's hunger/happiness stat decrease if it is not tended to?' - you probably don't want to be stranded with a pokémon that just barely obeys you suddenly becoming disobedient.

See also: Does a pokémon's hunger/happiness stat decrease if it is not tended to? and Discussion thread on the subject

How do I battle pokémon in this application?

Enter the 'Adventure!' section of the application. Initially, you will find yourself in Pallet Town, which you will want to exit to the north - from there, just keep moving around on the map until you encounter wild pokémon.

Note that currently, only some routes have encounter data entered - you will have to stay in vicinity of the open towns to encounter anything. 'The wilderness', while it sounds exciting, is just a label for 'no data entered'.

Additionally, towns themselves are devoid of pokémon, even on the map.

See also: Which towns are open? and Why am I not encountering any pokémon on the map?

Why do some moves not work right?

Charles has to enter all but basic damaging moves into his scripts by hand; while most of these have been added in the 14th July 2008 update, some may still be missing - though currently all of them still do a slight amount of damage along with their non-damage benefits. Just so you know: if that is all they do, then they've yet to be coded in.

Adventure: Items
Where can you buy pokéballs?

You can get pokéballs at PokéMarts in the cities scattered about the map.

Will we be able to trade items with other players?

Yes. In each town, there will be a market place of sorts where players can trade items amongst each other - this is also where you will be able to trade pokémon.

See also: Do our pokémon evolve?

How many master balls will be available to each trainer?

There will be more than one master ball for each trainer, but they will still be very limited. Charles has hinted at that your pokédex completion levels will play a role in the amount of master balls that you will be able to get.

Take a look at the see-also linked thread for a more in-depth answer.

Adventure: Evolution and growth
Will pokémon breeding be introduced at any point?

Is there a way not to evolve my pokémon?

Yes. Quite simply, when levelling up, and your pokémon is able to evolve, you will be asked if you want to evolve your pokémon or not - you can just not evolve it at this point.

Do our pokémon evolve?

Yes, they do.

This covers even special evolutions: stones will eventually be available via PokéMarts / quests, and trading will at some point be possible between people.

See also: Pokémon evolution chart for the application, Will we be able to trade items with other players? and Statement

How many moves will pokémon be able to learn / use at a time? Four, like in the games, or more, like in the animé?

The game is being modelled according to the games - so your pokémon will know a maximum of four moves at any one time.

I have high level pokémon by now - where do I go to level them up efficiently?

PvP battles give experience, so the best way to level up past a certain point is to find other trainers in your level range and beat their team(s).

So this app' will work with generation one movesets - but there are subtle differences between Red/Blue and Yellow. What's in the application?

Red/Blue takes precedence over Yellow in this application.

When I capture a pokemon in the wild, can I immediately train it, or does it need to be pet/fed like current pokémon?

It does not need to be pet/fed, it'll just sit happily in its pokéball, waiting to do your bidding.

What does the time machine do?

Stephen M. Hastings: "The time machine is this application's version of the move-relearner. It resets your pokemon to level 1 but you keep all your experience. You then level up your pokemon, no fighting needed, and evolve it if it can until it's back to normal. Your pokemon will now have all the moves it can have at that level."

Are EVs, IVs, natures in the game?

Help! Why does my pokémon revert back to level 1 when I put it into storage?

This is a display bug - don't worry about it too much, you might notice that the experience of your pokémon stays the same. You should be able to manually level your pokémon no problem once you place it back into the belt, at no extra effort.

How do I level up pokémon that are currently extremely weak?

Every pokémon that has hit the opponent at least once (or explicitly done nothing) will currently gain experience for this.

As such, the proper tactic would be to keep your weak pokémon on top, have them hit once or expressly do nothing (crucial difference to the games), then switch in a more powerful pokémon to finish the battle for them.

Note that TK's guide to levelling up weak pokémon (linked to below) was done before the 'Do nothing' option existed.

See also: TK's guide to levelling up

What pokémon movesets are being used? Kanto/generation one, Johto/generation two, or later (Hoenn/gen three, Sinnoh/gen four) movesets?

The application is modelled after generation one data.

When does my pokémon evolve?

If you want to know about your pokémon's evolutions or the skills it will learn, take a look at serebii or Bulbapedia for information. (Information on generation one is what you're looking for.)

Will I need a Shellder to evolve my Slowpoke into Slowbro, like in the animé?

No.

Adventure: Miscellaneous
Will we be able to battle other players?

Yes, eventually.

My pokémon have the same levels but vastly different experience points - how come?

As in the games, different pokémon level at different speeds.

How do I alter happiness/hunger of my pokémon after moving them to my belt or storage?

Currently, there is no way of tending to your pokémon's happiness after you've moved it to the belt or to storage, since you can't move it back to the training section. The mechanics of happiness and hunger will be expanded upon at a later point in the application development, however.

What are master orbs for?

Master orbs aren't necessary to play the game. They have two functions: convenience upgrades and auctions.

Convenience upgrades are the following:
- Master Training ranks (reduces minimum age for Trained Pokemon by 20 mins for every 10 orbs)
- Advanced Petting ranks (gives you and the owner more Poke-bucks each time you pet a pokémon: +1 Poke-buck for every 10 orbs)
- Poke-bucks (a certain amount for every 10 orbs - based on criteria I've not figured out yet)
- Send credits (toward unlocking new pokémon for sending or training (does not circumvent training cap), +5 credits for every 10 orbs)

Most notably, though, you can use them for auctions. You need a certain amount of orbs to qualify for auctions (1000 of them for town auctions), you pay the auction registration fee in orbs (100 for town auctions) whether you win or lose, and the auctions themselves run with orbs. For example, Pallet Town was auctioned off for 16958 orbs.

Will Mew be available on the map eventually, without hacking?

Yes, though it will be very hard to get, like all legendaries.

See also: Statement from Charles

Will the time machine ever be removed?

No, the time machine will always be around to help you reset your pokémon, though Charles has voiced intent to make it cost a small Poke-buck fee when you want to use it. It will, though, definitely always be available.

How are people petting pokémon on my belt?

You've either posted an instant petting link to your pokémon before that people are still clicking on occasionally; or the person in question is simply manually going through poké-IDs in URLs and yours happened to be amongst their click-pool.

This will be patched up soon, as Charles considers it a bug / cheating.

See also: How do I best link people to my pokémon for petting?

How does the carnival work?

If you partake in the carnival offers, you are helping Charles with server costs. Note that it might take a while for you to get your share of the benefit - namely Poke-bucks - as some offers stall you for a while before giving you Poke-bucks.

If it takes noticably longer than advertised, report it to Charles.

What can I do with Poke-bucks?

Poke-bucks are useful to upgrade your means of transportation or buy pokéballs (or other items).

Will some quests only be accessible after doing other quests?

Will pokémon from higher generations be available?

There is a second application you can install to your facebook account called "Send Pokemon: Johto". Note that it only allows you to send Johto pokémon to friends and train them (pet/feed), there is no map yet. Check out the 'Send Pokemon: Johto' section of this FAQ for more information.

Will there be groups/teams in the game, as in, actively supported, getting some sort of benefit?

Yes, there will be.

Can I capture pokémon?

You sure can. During battle, the option(s) [Use pokéball] (substitute whichever brand of pokéball you've bought for 'pokéball') will appear amongst the options to pick what move your pokémon should do.

Be careful, clicking this does not prompt for confirmation.

PVP Battles
Can I decline pokémon battles?

Not currently, though this will soon be made a feature. Until then, best just ignore the requests to battle if you don't want them.

I've never asked for anyone to PVP me, how are people finding me?!

If you go to the PVP battle page, yourself, you'll see that it's quite easy: you just have to enter the name of your opponent to battle them.

Alternatively, some people simply alter UIDs to find opponents.

Are there any safeguards for low-level players against being pounded by high-level players?

Not currently. While the page you see when you got to PVP Battles shows you trainers in your approximate level vicinity, anyone can challenge you.

Eventually, aside from that you will always be able to decline challenges (unless you are a top ten player, in which case the option to decline challenges is removed for the duration of your time in the top ten), the level of your pokémon and your opponent's pokémon are not going to be allowed to be too far removed from each other.

The exact formula for this has yet to be divulged, but in future, you needn't fear being unwittingly pitched against someone with a team far superior to yours in level.

How does PVP work? This FAQ used to mention something about pseudo-turn-based, is that how it works now?

Currently, PvP battles are strictly turn-based with no time limit on the turns.

In the long run, PvP battles are planned as pseudo-turn-based, meaning that there will be a 'cool down' period between moves, e.g. five seconds cool-down, but your ability to act will not depend on whether or not the other side has made their move.

Can I see my opponents stats somehow?

Not currently, but this is a planned feature.

Is there a timeout to battle turns?

Not yet, no.

Pokemon Adventure (Beta)
How do I change my trainer name and/or chat screen name?

If you click on 'Profile', there is an '(edit)' link next to your name. You can change your nickname via that.

Alternatively, if it's just the chat name you want to change, you can enter the chats via www.meebo.com, where you have full control over your name.

I reloaded the application and now people I was chatting with aren't in the room anymore. Did everyone just abruptly leave?

meebo - the software being used for Send Pokemon in-application chats at the moment - has a user count limit for rooms. This is frequently met for Pallet Town in particular, and the room then ends up splitting into several. If you reload, you are placed into one of these at random, so it is quite likely that you'll end up somewhere else than you were before.

I don't want to spam my friends with this application - can I still do something to prevent my pokémon getting stolen?

Not directly, but it's easy enough to get pokémon back - it's really nothing one has to despair over.

The mechanism behind Team Rocket stealing (or rather, not stealing) pokémon is much like in Battle of Bands, except with a level of indirection less: any friends you have using the application are automatically 'in your team', and the more of those you have, the less likely a steal is.

See also: Battle of the Bands

People in the chats are talking about Send Pokemon sometimes - how come?

Send Pokemon and Pokemon Adventure currently share their chat rooms. Keep that in mind when you want to answer questions pertaining to the applications - it's best to ask people which application they mean if it's ambiguous at all before giving definitive sounding answers.

I just entered a building and all I see is grey. How do I get back out now?

Just reload the application, that should fix things.

Facebook notifications and facebook dropdown menus are partly hidden by landscape elements!

This is a known bug right now - there's no estimate available as to when it'll be fixed, but that should happen soon enough.

Which towns are open?

Only Pallet and Viridian are currently coded, and Viridian is only partially available.

My pokémon have gained a whole bunch of experience and are still not levelling up - help!

Pokemon Adventure does not support leveling at this time. Go back to Send Pokemon to level your pokémon - the two applications are synchronised to share experience, levels and stats.

I'm not in the grass but I am getting pokémon encounters! Why?

Pokémon encounters are enabled per route much like in Send Pokemon - not (yet!) per grass patch.

Motion freezes up for me sometimes - then I have to reload. What's up with that?

If your internet connection is fickle (or facebook is having a particularly bad day, either way), you may experience this 'glitching' - the abrupt lack of motion is symptom that there is no communication with the server anymore. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do other than to reload.

Help! I'm stuck in a building. It won't let me leave!

Try reloading the application right after you attempt to leave a building.

Pokemon Adventure (Beta): Trading
How do I trade?

In order to trade you must find the NPC in viridian who will give you the options to trade with another player.

Send Pokemon: Johto
How can I battle with the pokémon I've trained in Send Pokemon: Johto?

You can't yet. The application stands by itself, but it will be synchronised with Send Pokemon eventually. However, this is low priority, so don't expect it to happen over night.

How can I send pokémon to people who are not my friends?

Unlike in Send Pokemon, itself, Send Pokemon: Johto does not allow sending pokémon outside the facebook sending limit. This is in attempt to combat spam sends.

Is there an INSTANT PETTING thread for this application, too?

Yep, absolutely! Check out the link:

Is there going to be a map for Johto?

Eventually. Right now, Send Pokemon (and, by proxy, Pokemon Adventure) are top priority, so don't expect a map for Johto any time soon.

Pokedex
A pokémon I received does not show up in my PokéDex - how come?

In the 'Pokedex' section of the application, there are three sub-sections. The pokédex that will complete from receiving pokémon is titled accordingly.

What is the purpose of the different dexes?

Encounters in the wild will, once the battle system is completed, depend on your pokédex completion levels.

Additionally, Charles has hinted that the amount to which these are completed will determine how many master balls you, as a player, will obtain.

Does sending pokémon to myself complete my sent and received dexes?

Yes.

Add an option to stop the application from sending out notifications and requests

Charles wrote: "I'm working on a fix to that, and it will come out after battles/exploration are done (essentially instead of requests, you'll have a way of sending out just notifications to people who already have the app). But yeah I get those requests every day too, and I understand your concern."

Have the 'send one back' link actually link to the sendto page of the individual, not the 'send pokemon' tab, so you can also send to people who are not on your friends list.
